Mission
Nishkam TV empowers youth through Sikh Visual Storytelling and Media Education to build identity and pride, combat misrepresentation, and create an inclusive society.
About Us
Nishkam TV is a 501(c) nonprofit organization (EIN: 99-3233591) dedicated to developing a strong Sikh identity, combating prejudice, and fostering a sense of pride and belonging among Sikh youth. Nishkam TV provides a platform for Sikh voices and stories, promoting a more accurate and nuanced understanding of Sikhi.
Our Programs
- Sikh Youth Development: Comprehensive training programs and workshops for Sikh youth in storytelling and media production.
- Content Production: Creation of documentaries, short films, talk shows, and interfaith programs that showcase the Sikh experience.
- Distribution: Multi-channel strategy to ensure a broad reach of Sikh-centric content through digital platforms and partnerships with established broadcasters.
Impact
- Training over 150+ students across the USA through face-to-face and online workshops, equipping them with essential media skills and knowledge.
- Producing 14+ short films, three documentaries, and multiple talk shows showcasing the talent and creativity of Sikh youth (check our Content Portfolio).
- Collaborating with prominent Sikh organizations like SALDEF and Sikh Coalition to produce documentaries that align with Sikh philosophy and values, such as:
- "SEVA" documentary, produced in partnership with SALDEF, highlights the importance of selfless service in the Sikh tradition and community.
- “BAYWATANA” documentary, produced in partnership with the Sikh Coalition, highlights the untold story of Afghan Sikhs and Hindus and their religious persecution.
- Nishkam TV students have produced numerous events and interviews for the Sikh community, including:
- Hemkunt Foundation New Jersey Event in 2019
- SAVA Film Festival
- Oneness Guru Nanak Event in New York
- Neighborhood Langar in NJ
- 10th Anniversary of Oak Creek Shooting
- Sikhs in Storytelling event
- Establishing a state-of-the-art video editing lab and production studio, providing Sikh youth with access to professional-grade equipment and facilities.
- Managing live streams of Kirtan and programs from NESSC Gurdwara, reaching our Sangat,and fostering community and connection.
- Won awards for best documentary, best short film, and audience awards.
Pedagogy Approach
Nishkam TV's innovative pedagogy combines filmmaking with personal growth and skill development. Our program is divided into seven distinct streams:

Recent Developments and Future Direction
Nishkam TV has experienced significant growth and community support, leading to exciting new developments:
Expanding Reach and Impact
- Conducted 41 screenings of the "Baywatana" documentary across various Gurdwaras, revealing strong demand for our program from Sangat.
- Received consistent inquiries from Sangat members about bringing the program to their local Khalsa Schools, demonstrating widespread interest and need.
Commitment to the Mission
- Recognized the crucial need within the Panth for a program that empowers youth through Sikh storytelling.
- Executive Director Harbaldeep Singh decided to leave his full-time corporate job to dedicate himself fully to this Seva, guided by his faith and passion for the mission.
Community Support and Validation
- Consulted with Sangat members, who affirmed the importance and potential impact of Nishkam TV's work.
- Received overwhelming support from the community, reinforcing the significance of the program.
Organizational Growth
- Established as a 501(c) nonprofit organization with the support of the Sangat.
- Dedicated to sustaining and expanding the program across the USA, reaching more Khalsa Schools and empowering more Sikh youth.
