Help Us Provide Fresh Meals to Communities in Need in Türkiye and Northern Syria
On February 6, communities throughout central and southern Türkiye and northern Syria were rocked by two powerful earthquakes. The first—a 7.8-magnitude temblor—occurred in the early hours of the day as people were still asleep and was felt as far as Israel and Lebanon. The second was a 7.5-magnitude quake that shook the region just six hours later. The full scale of damage is still unknown, but thousands of buildings were destroyed across more than a dozen cities, killing at least 35,000 people and injuring thousands more.
How We Are Helping
World Central Kitchen's Relief Team has established operations across Türkiye and through partners in Syria, delivering fresh meals to families displaced and emergency crews stretched thin due to the scale of the disaster.
To ensure we could get meals to families in impacted areas, we established regional teams capable of reaching communities and meeting their unique needs. Since then, we have partnered with more than 25 restaurants across impacted provinces to provide more than 800,000 meals in the country.
Our response has scaled quickly by working hand-in-hand with local restaurants and organizations. Just over one week since first reaching devastated communities, we are providing more than 200,000 meals a day across Türkiye and Syria.
In Osmaniye, the WCK kitchen is preparing thousands of meals for displaced residents. With so much damage & aftershocks, many homes are no longer safe. Some of the people we're serving have lost their entire families—so WCK will continue to do all we can to help.
To reach as many impacted families as possible, WCK teams are partnering with local restaurants able to cook for neighbors in need. Yesterday, our restaurant partner Hazar delivered 7,000 hot, nourishing meals to residents—including many children—in Adıyaman.
International sanctions against the Syrian government that stem from ongoing conflict means it’s very difficult and complex for our team to cross the border. Still, we were able to reach hard-hit towns in the country.
These are just a few examples of our efforts and impact by our team on the ground there.
Help Us Feed More Families and First Responders
As we unite and mobilize teams on the ground, your donation will allow us to feed more families and first responders, many who have suffered great loss.
Meals have been delivered to families and first responders in the towns of A’zaz, Afrin, and Jindires and our team is working with local partners to continue increasing the number of meals we deliver each day. In order to scale operations and in partnership with IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and Gift of the Givers, we are establishing a kitchen just across the border in Türkiye from which food will be distributed to communities in Syria. Additionally, alongside IHH, we are distributing food kits at refugee camps. Kits include bulk dry goods for families able to cook for themselves.
