What inspired you to start this project?
The California Sikh Retreat (CSR) was founded with a deep desire to provide everyone from all walks of life with a transformative, immersive experience that goes beyond everyday religious practice. Our inspiration comes from the teachings of Guru Sahib and the Khalsa Foundation’s legacy of hosting retreats that equip individuals with profound spiritual knowledge and personal growth. Through this retreat, we provide a sanctuary for reflection and spiritual enrichment. We saw a need for a place where people could deeply explore and live Guru Sahib’s teachings while bonding with others who share similar spiritual aspirations.

Why does this project matter? What makes it important?
The California Sikh Retreat matters because it is more than just a spiritual retreat—it’s a life-changing experience for participants of all backgrounds. In today’s fast-paced world, individuals often struggle to find time and space to nurture their spiritual side. CSR offers a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can step away from daily distractions to focus on their spiritual journey. Through seminars, Simran sessions, Kirtan, and discussions on Sikh philosophy, participants gain both knowledge and a sense of community. This retreat allows attendees to reconnect with their roots, strengthen their relationship with the Guru, and return home with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging.

How can donors help?
Donors play a vital role in making this retreat accessible to everyone. While attendees do pay fees, the actual cost of the retreat is much higher, and it is often subsidized by sevadhaars (volunteers). Sevadhaars also cover the fees for those that are having difficult financial times. Your donations help cover these additional costs, ensuring that CSR can continue to offer this unique, high-quality experience to everyone regardless of financial background. By contributing, donors can help make this retreat available to more people from all around the world, creating an inclusive and transformative Sikh experience.

How will you be using the funds you raise for your project?
The funds raised through donations will primarily go towards covering the operational costs of the retreat, including accommodations, meals, transportation, and the resources needed for workshops, seminars, and sports activities. Additionally, the funds help bring in experienced Gursikhs, educators, and speakers to guide participants in their spiritual growth. By providing high-quality facilities and experiences at a subsidized cost, we ensure that every attendee has the opportunity to discover the spirit within, without financial burden being a barrier to their spiritual journey.
