Sikh Bandi Singh's Project
The Sikh Political Prisoner is often the sole bread winner of the house. Once they are incarcerated, the whole household falls apart. Our aim is to help support bandi Sikhs through the challenges they experience.
Our Background
Sikh Relief is a registered charity focused on creating a lasting legacy of positive change in people’s lives. Originating as the Sikh Organisation for Prisoner Welfare (SOPW), Sikh Relief began providing for the welfare of Sikh Prisoners of Conscience in various different ways. These were people in jail convicted or accused of crimes against the state resulting from decades of documented oppression and state sponsored Genocide. SOPW continues to support and help gain the freedom of these Sikh prisoners throughout India.
Our Vision
Committed to a hand up not a hand out, Sikh Relief’s programs encourage self sufficiency and lasting positive social change.
How We Help
We are supporting bandi Sikhs directly with access to competent advise and legal representation, clothing, spiritual support including access to Gutka's and Pothi's of Gurbani, financial support for special purchases including food and access to kitchen area where Sikh Bandi's can prepare their own meals.
We are also aiming to support the families of bandi's by helping their families through home maintenance, children's education and medical assistance grants. Additionally, we aim to support those Sikhs upon release by providing them with assistance to help rehabilitate their lives including vocational training and/or funding to help them begin work or entrepreneurship.
