In 2025, after severe floods impacted villages across border regions of Panjab, SAF International teams began visiting affected communities to understand what had been lost and what support was needed most.
Most conversations began with urgent needs already on our list — food, shelter, homes, livestock, and basic survival support.
But in one village, something unexpected came up.
A Bapu Ji quietly said,
“I have lost my Gutka Sahib… can you give me one?”
That one moment stayed with us.
As we continued visiting more villages, we realized this was not an isolated need. Many families had lost their personal Gutka Sahibs in the floods.
For many families, replacing a Gutka Sahib is not always easy. They are not freely available in every village, and even a small cost can become difficult for households already trying to recover from disaster.
That is when this project was outlined.
How this will be done
This project will support 350 villages along the border regions of Panjab, from Pathankot to Ajnala, by distributing 20,000 Gutka Sahibs (Nitnem and Sukhmani Sahib) along with secure storage cabinets in village Gurdwaras.
In each village, a cabinet will be installed inside the Gurdwara so Gutka Sahibs can be stored safely. Anyone in the village who needs a Gutka Sahib for their home can request one through the Granthi Singh.
The keys are handed to the Granthi Singh and Gurdwara committee, ensuring the sangat itself takes responsibility for care and respectful use.
This ensures:
- Safe and respectful storage of Gutka Sahibs
- Free access for every family in the village
- Local responsibility within each Gurdwara
Each village handover is formally documented to ensure transparency, trust, and clear accountability.
Support this effort to help restore daily access to Gutka Sahib for families across flood-affected Panjab.
