SevaTruck Mission: Combat Hunger, Serve Humanity and Build Unity.

42.2 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including 29.1 million adults and 13.1 million children. 13 percent of households (15.8 million households) are food insecure. 5 percent of households (6.3 million households) experience very low food security.

Aasraa is excited to be partner with D.C based SevaTruck by launching the 2nd SevaTruck in the US. Our goal is to help food insecure households in the Metro Detroit Area.

To assist in this, Aasraa will be partnering with local organizations(already doing amazing work), by providing meals for families in need.

The SevaTruck team has kindly loaned the Aasraa team the capital required to make this truck a reality. Our goal is repay this loan as quickly as possible, so they can help the next truck get up and running in another city.

The breakdown of our costs are below:
Cost of used truck: $12,500
Cost of building out the truck: $34,630.72
Cost of kitchen equipment: $5,625.49
Annual insurance costs: $3,522.00
Licensing fees: $2,241.00
Repairs to truck: $2,732.02
Miscellaneous Expenses: $201.43

Total Cost: $61,452.66

We have attached receipts for the purchase of the truck, equipment and the contract for building the truck out.

If you have any questions please email us at [email protected].

Some information about food insecurity in the Metro Detroit Area:

*When people in the U.S. speak of hunger, they define hunger as an inability to obtain sufficient food for their households. People skip meals, cut back on the quality or quantity of meals, and may potentially suffer malnutrition over time.

*In Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties, one in five children live in poverty. In the tri-county area 500,000 people including nearly 200,000 children, live in poverty.

*Four million households in Michigan live at risk of hunger.

*Michigan lost one million jobs over the past decade. A large share of the jobs lost once resided here in Southeast Michigan. Those lost jobs were high- and middle-wage lower-education jobs in lower-education industries. It is unlikely these jobs will ever return.

    #DasvandhWeek is here!

Vaaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Dasvandh Week 2018 is starting tomorrow, November 9th!

With your support during Dasvandh Week, we are hoping to raise money for the SevaTruck! We have just over $5,000 left on the SevaTruck Foundation loan and hope to make the final payment this week with your help.

We are looking for 10 donor families to make a $250 donation this Friday. With Dasvandh Network’s matching fund (use matching code DVWEEK18), we will surely hit our goal!

If you would like to support the work we are doing further, you may donate to the Aasraa organization. All donations are used to run the SevaTruck and the Aasraa Food Pantry.

While visiting the Dasvandh Network site, you are encouraged to check out other initiatives, amazing activists, and organizations who are continuing Guru’s legacy of Seva today.

    Thank you for helping.

    October Project update

Vaaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa  Vaaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

First off, we apologize that we updates come in far and few between. Rest assure we have been working hard the past few months providing meals for some of those most vulnerable in our community.

We have partnered with a Homeless Shelter in Detroit (NSO Tumaini Center, a local school district (Avondale Schools) and Hope Warming Center to help provide meals to students and their families.

We also had our first youth group, Automatons Robotics Team, join us for an event this past Saturday.  They cut, prepped and served burrito bowls to over 125 people. It was great to see these young people giving back to their community.

Our next event is with Avondale School District's mobile food pantry.  A representative from our local Food Bank, Gleaners Community Food Bank, will be joining us for the event, with the goal of finding new projects in the Metro Detroit Area.  We will keep you updated on how it goes.

If you'd like to see a breakdown of events we've had so far, you can find them here.

Once again, thank you for your support.
